Membership

By becoming a member of SAVE OUR ELMS you are helping to preserve the unique urban forest that make Portland's neighborhoods such wonderful places to live. Our primary source of funding to preserve the grove of historic American Elm trees is our annual membership drive. The treatment of each of the 250+ elms in Ladd's Addition costs between $150 and $200! To protect the grove requires an ongoing investment of $16,000 per year. Without the support of membership, we would be unable to continue the injection program at a rate which effectively protects the grove from Dutch Elm Disease. SAVE OUR ELMS depends on new memberships and annual renewals for the majority of our funding. It is clear that we must raise additional dollars each year if we intend to protect all of the trees. While we are pursuing other fund raising activities to supplement the membership drive, such as the Ladd's Addition Historic Home Tour, our core funding depends on neighbors and friends like you becoming members through tax-exempt contributions.

  • SAVE OUR ELMS is a 501c.3 non profit organization is registered with the Oregon Secretary of State and the Oregon Department of Justice. IRS Tax ID 31-1581092.

SAVE OUR ELMS Affiliates

2008 brought another new affiliate group to SAVE OUR ELMS. Now there are six neighborhoods in Portland working with the City to maintain the health of our mature Urban Canopy. We're pleased to have the following active Affiliate groups: Ladd's Addition, Eastmoreland, Richmond School, Mt. Tabor, Grant Park and newly added, Lauralhurst.

2008 is our tenth year helping neighborhood groups begin and maintain elm protection programs. Our local groups have inoculated elms, planted trees, and assisted elm sanitation pruning. All of these actions are needed to protect Portland's elm legacy from the relentless attack of disease, age, and man-made stresses.

Dutch Elm Disease threatens American Elm groves throughout the City of Portland. Do you have a community group that wants to save elms, rather than watch them fall? To find out how you can form a local Affiliate, contact: Richard Ross, SAVE OUR ELMS Affiliates, 503-235-8194 email: affiliates@saveourelms.org .
